PIPE ORGANS MAKERS

The activity of building organs has had a long and relevant tradition in Montecarotto. This particular activity was already recognised in 1500, when the master “Frate Uliviero da Monte Carotto” was called to build the organ of the Sanctuary of Loreto, the most important sanctuary of the time, and for many centuries one of the most important sanctuaries dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Italy, on papal commission. This historical fact therefore testifies not only to the presence of the artisan activity of organ builders in Montecarotto, but also its recognized importance, confirmed by the importance of the project and the client.

After an undocumented period, this craft activity resumed at the end of the 1600s with Don Benedetto Antonio Fioretti from Montecarotto and continued with the pupil Saverio Vici and his son Sebastiano, also from Montecarotto, until 1830.

Their home and workshop was located in front of the Parish Church, where the historic building  is still located, today a private residence.

The organs built in Montecarotto have been placed throughout the Marche and Umbria and have often been characterized by original technical and aesthetic solutions. A fair amount of them, in working order, are still present in the place of installation.
